Cognitive Analytic Therapy

The way our lives unfold and the way that we respond to life’s challenges affects how we grow. Things may not always happen as we had hoped or intended. We might not always understand why things are not going our way. Recognition of how we can influence a situation or develop a relationship is half way towards finding an effective solution.

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a pragmatic time-limited psychotherapy that can help to resolve issues quickly and effectively. CAT has a growing evidence base, which is continually developing.

CAT can help with a wide range of problems:

  • If you feel you have lost meaning in life
  • If you are going through major changes in your life
  • Bereavement or loss
  • Relationship problems
  • Separation or divorce
  • Anxiety or panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Eating problems or disorders
  • Trauma following a diagnosis of major illness
  • Work related stresses: bullying, redundancy, and retirement.
  • Alcohol and substance misuse
My specialist area is Public performance issues; whether speaking, acting or musical

There are no guaranteed outcomes in psychotherapy but CAT has methods for client feedback so that we can build evidence about what is useful. Talking to a professional who you can trust, who cares and who is trained to listen is proven to have a beneficial effect. Dialogue is central in this model of therapy through which one can gain greater insight, new learning and new perspectives on life.
